The fact that Kate Middleton won this makes me so annoyed. Yes shes great and she married a price and she dresses nicely but REALLY?!? A number of those other women on the list have done FAR more with their lives and will continue to inspire and work hard to change the world, change peoples perspectives and society, do things that really matter! Kate Middleton will do a fantastic job and she will honor her country and be a well behaved princess but it just seems so BACKWARDS that she has won this. So much of her life is about rules and how she is meant to behave as a lady and she she is meant to dress as a lady. I am so disappointed in the women that have made these votes. I haven't even been able to express myself properly because I just cannot believe it. Someone please tell me why this is plausible?

If this is what the British public think then we don't have any hope. If the Wedding hadn't happened would she even be on the list. What about all the wonderful women who are bringing up a family on just a few £s a week. What about all the women working to support a family because their partners have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. The women in our armed forces, in the police, fire brigade and hospitals etc etc. and all the volunteer/charities Mary Curie etc.

I think Katie Piper is such an amazing person. After having acid thrown in her face she has come out of it with such a brilliant positive attitude. I am sure it has been a long road to recovery and has been extremely hard at times for her. But she has shown gut and determination. My children think she is a remarkable person and watched her on TV as she tried to cope with what that person had done to her. My 11 year old says "she's taught her not to look at people with disfigurements and treat them any different than other people, they are still good people". Well done Katie.

Margaret Thatcher, Kate Middleton and Victoria Beckam, what on earth are any of them doing in the top ten. Love or loathe Maggie (loathe personally!) but she certainly isn't modern, her day was done a long time ago now, the only person on here less modern is the Queen! What the hell has Victoria or Kate done to warrant this? Victoria has done nothing for anyone that doesn't benefit her, getting her face in the papers is the only thing that matters to that woman. Kate Middleton has only been a member of the Royal Family for just over a year, she hasn't had time to do anything "great" yet even in the unlikely event that she is going to at any point.
JK Rowling deserves to be much higher up for getting a whole generation of children to remember that books exsist. As someone else said below though at least the Cole woman isn't on here, although given MSNs obsession with her I am surprised.

Okay I mean no offence by this but how is it possible Kate Middleton is the top when to be honest she hasn't done as much for society than the other women. Its admirable that she sacrificed so much of her life to marry the man she truly loves but JK ROWLING!!! I think deserved that spot not only did she create a whole world from her imagination she helped literacy rates for kids across the world and gave millions to charity, in my opinion that is such an incredible acheivement and feat! And if she isn't at the to stella macartney of vivian westwood should be their for their contribution to charity! Even the olypiams have done more than kate middleton because they've showed us people from non-priveliged background can become champions!!!!! <3 <3

The following is my comment on the mater during the voting.
Why exactly do we need another accolade for "celebrity" status people. Besides the clearly subjective nature of this poll, I think it's horrible that we praise the popular and famous so much, regardless of how talented or not they are.
It was just last night after I heard that James Corden won some Gong in America that I thought, If I was famous and won such an award, my thank you speech would be thanks to, the armed forces, the police, the doctors and nurses, the firemen, the charity workers, the good samaritan, the loving mothers and fathers, husbands and wives, the good people that bring some joy and light to others.
Regardless of how famous and popular someone is, they are only doing their job, much like everyone else.
Of course we should all be praised for the good work we do, including famous people, but the praise they get seems disproportionate to the importance of their role in the process.
They might be talented, but they wouldn't be famous were it not for the inventors of the mediums to share the media, the techies who edit and perfect their work, the manufactures who provide the equipment, the admin who process the required documentation.
My point.
Talented? Perhaps
Deserving? No more so than anyone else.
