Louise Roe: staying in is officially the new going out
No hangovers, no surprise bar bills and a new-found knowledge of movies: Louise Roe reveals why she loves a good chilled night in (well, occasionally at least). Catch Louise at Miami Swim Week next week or promoting the Harrods sale with her pal, George Lamb.
Staying in is officially the new going out. After nearly three months of filming back-to-back episodes of Plain Jane, I haven't had one proper night out, and I'm starting to get used to life as a hermit! No hangovers, no gigantic surprise bar receipts, and a new-found knowledge of every movie ever made.
Who am I kidding?! I miss my cocktails and dancing! I am totally making up for it once we wrap, heading off to Miami for swim week (sort of like fashion week for bronzed, nearly naked people), where I'll be attending the runway show for Brazilian bikini designer Caffé (www.caffeswimwear.com), and having cocktails with my good friend Melissa Odabash. Melissa and I have been mates since I worked at In Style magazine about four years ago, and I had to interview her at a party. She was such a giggle we got on like a house on fire, and kept bumping into each other from there on. A doyenne of beach chic, most of the paparrazzi pictures you'll see this summer of A-listers on the beach, on their yachts or shopping along the windy streets of St Tropez - will be of them wearing bright, beaded Melissa Odabash bikinis, kaftans and cowboy hats. To top it all off, she's just launched her American website, www.melissaodabash.com, so her stuff is shipped even quicker if you live across the pond.
But back to my new 'staying in' trend: it's catching on! I just filmed an advert to launch the Harrods sale, in which TV presenter George Lamb and I get all dressed up and ready to hit the town, only to crash back down on the sofa in a heap, ready to shop online for the evening instead! Check it out at www.harrods.com/video.
I've known George for a while and he's great - he always makes me laugh - which was a bonus on the shoot, considering I had to wake up at 4am! We had to be wrapped up and out of there by the time the shop opened, which meant being ready to rock by the crack of dawn. Lucky for me, my make-up artist Rachel is a miracle-worker, managing to hide the dark circles under my eyes.
Like a child in a sweet shop, I was ecstatic to be able to choose my own outfit and jewellery for filming. Red dresses are my favourite thing of all time, so I went for a Preen one that did up so tight I could barely breathe (it's on sale right now too!), gold YSL pumps and a beautiful, delicate bracelet from Monica Vinader, which I fell in love with and had to buy.
Oh and my nails! Since I've been back in the UK I've become absolutely addicted to Geleration by Jessica (www.jessicacosmetics.co.uk). It's a new type of gel nail polish that just never chips, it stays put until you decide to change the colour. Amazeballs! I've been wearing different shades all throughout the show, and right now my favourite varnish is called Hot Fudge, a warm sparkly brown that looks yummy enough to eat.
Right now I'm about to board a flight to Bergen in Norway, whisking my latest makeover victim off for an adrenaline rush in the mountains. It's going to be so incredible you'll have to tune into the next series to find out what happens! Plain Jane will air on MTV starting in September.
