Costume designer Jacqueline Durran has styled and curated a capsule collection for Banana Republic inspired by Keira Knightley's upcoming film, Anna Karenina.

Describing it to WWD as 'a once in a lifetime experience', Durran further explained: 'I was given the chance to apply my passion for period styles to a collection that translates to fashion today.'

Set in late the 19th Century's Russian high-society, the film, based on the book by Leo Tolstoy, sees aristocrat Anna Karenina, played by Knightley, enter into a life-changing affair with the wealthy Count Vronsky (Aaron Johnson) despite her marriage to Alexei Karenin (Jude Law).

In the film, Knightley wears piles of luxurious pearls and crystals, which Banana Republic has reinterpreted.

Banana Republic’s creative director and executive vice president of design, Simon Kneen, said:  'With Jacqueline’s clear expertise and extensive knowledge of the era, it was a dream to have her as part of the styling and editing process, which allowed us to curate a capsule that embodies the film’s mood.'

Images from the film, which is released in the UK in September, are to be used throughout stores.

The Banana Republic Anna Karenina collection is due in stores from October.
