You can always count on the ladies of Liverpool to bring a certain brand of glamour to any event - and that's exactly what they did as this year's Grand National kicked off at Aintree.

The stands at the Merseyside racecourse were awash with swathes of chiffon, extravagant hats and more fake-tanned bodies than you see in an average episode of TOWIE.

Despite the chilling temperatures, race-goers braved the cold in dresses that bared their legs, arms and - in the case of one unfortunate punter who had a run-in with an unexpected gust of wind - their bottoms.

Famous faces at the races included local ladies Liz McClarnon and Claire Sweeney, plus the girls from MTV's The Valleys.

Check out the good, the bad and the 'really should have stayed at home' fashion from this year's Grand National at Aintree in the gallery above.
