It would appear in celebs-ville there is a new area of flesh to flash: the 'side cleavage' - which is defined as the area that extends from armpit to mid-rib and takes in a small (or as we've found through research, sometimes large) semi-circle of bare breast.

We first noticed this fashion phenomenon at the Cannes Film Festival where Nicole Kidman was baring a bit of breast at the Hemingway and Gellhorn film premiere but a quick look through our fashion files reveals that the trend has been sneaking into more daring celebrity fashion ensembles for quite a few months. And the trend looks like it is here to stay with Yves Saint Laurent and Roberto Cavalli both pushing the silhouette in their collections next season.

In my opinion, when done right the side boob is a lot more seductive than regular cleavage. It leaves a lot more to the imagination and as it requires you going braless to show off your side flesh it is most suited to a smaller cup (something I can certainly relate to!) That said, fashion critiques everywhere have been deeming the look scandalous and too revealing.

So take look through our gallery of side-cleavage offenders and let us know if you find the look sexy or just downright tacky.
