When the official British team kit for London 2012 was unveiled on Friday, it was a proud day for everyone involved. The Adidas kit, designed by Stella McCartney, has been two years in the making, and combines top sportswear technology with great British design. At the launch Stella explained how she came up with the final design, "The first place to start on a project like this is to look at the Union flag. For me it's one of the most beautiful flags in the world and it was important for me to stay true to that iconic design but also to modernise it and present it in a contemporary way. Ultimately, we wanted the athletes to feel like a team and be proud with the identity we created.'
Although the new kit has been created exclusively for our Olympic athletes, that doesn't mean us mere mortals can't have a slice of the action too. Sports luxe (aka. sportswear inspired high-fashion) was a massive trend on the SS12 catwalks. From mesh bomber jackets at Alexander Wang, to football jerseys and jogging bottoms at Isabel Marant, and sporty toggles and leather legwarmers at Victoria Beckham, it seems the fashion world is just as excited about London 2012 as the rest of us!
Stylist and Fashion Director of Notion magazine, Alexis Knox, explained why she's such a fan of the trend, 'What I love about the new angle on the sport luxe trend is that it allows us to combine the comfort of lounge wear with luxury and high tech fabrics.'
Thankfully the trend has filtered down to the high-street, so you can afford to get sporty-chic, no matter what your budget...or athletic prowess!
Here are our top 10 sports luxe buys.
