Plan the perfect Christmas party

Let’s face it; we’ve all had our fair share of Christmas nightmares. From battery-less toys, to undercooked turkeys, to misguided mistletoe encounters, there’s plenty to worry about during the festive season – follow our 5 step guide to planning the perfect festive celebration and don’t let organising your office’s Christmas party be one of them!

The earlier the better

It may seem weeks away, but Christmas is a busy time in everyone’s social calendar. Leave it too late and you may find that all your guests are already busy well into the New Year. Send invitations out as early as possible, and make sure you ask for RSVPs (it’s important to know how many people you are expecting)! And take advantage of your office email and calendar system – set reminders (full of necessary details – time, date, what to wear ...), and block the party in to everybody’s calendar – they’ll have no excuse to miss the fun!

Look good

The office Christmas party is your chance to ditch the dreary work-wear for a day and look fabulous. Sequins, feathers and sumptuous sartorial finery must be accessorised with lashings - and we mean lashings - of sparkly, glittery gorgeous make-up. This year, the look is distinctly gothic - and while black lipstick is said to be making a comeback, the less brave among us can instead revel in deliciously dark berry colours blended with the brightest of rouges for a dramatic look.

Say goodbye to bronzers and keep the skin tone clear and fresh with subtle foundations worn as a base, finished with a dash of loose powder to set. For the eyes, gun metal grey eye-shadows, dark, smouldering chocolate colours and lavishly deep purples are your friends for the Christmas parties, accessorised with plenty of mascara, of course.

Plan as much as possible in advance

Make sure that all of your guests know how to get to and from the venue, and have full details of the venue address – maybe organise a mini-bus or taxis.

Arrange as much as possible before the day itself – do you have members of your party with special dietary needs? Make sure the details are passed on to the venue beforehand. If the venue has a menu available, find out if you can pre-order; this will prevent lots of unnecessary stress on the day, and free up time for you to let your hair down!

Have fun

Planning the party doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun too! Organise activities that will get everyone out of the office mentality. Why not get hold of baby photos of all your colleagues, and ask your guests to identify their workmates? Or put together a quiz and organise some prizes?

Great cocktails always break the ice at any party: find out some of your colleagues’ favourites and have them ready on arrival - the perfect way to start the evening!

Think about the morning after ...

Beat the post-party blues by taking some hang-over proof precautions. Make sure you alternate your tipple of choice with a glass of water on the night and start the evening with a hearty Christmas meal. After all, knowing your safe alcohol limits will not only help ease the morning after but might also prevent those embarrassing party moments we’d all rather forget!

When you get to work, catch-up on the gossip from the night before, and make sure you’ve got plenty of photos to send around office to keep your colleagues in the festive mood.
